Dorset Travel Guide
Many people are drawn to Dorset for the coast, and with very good reason. The Jurassic Coast runs all the way along it, with dramatic cliffs, wide bays and beaches that can feel completely different depending on the day and the weather. Places like Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove may be well photographed, but nothing compares to seeing them for yourself.
Dorset is also home to my favourite place in the UK, Lyme Regis. It’s a place to visit again and again and has everything there is to love in a seaside town – a good food scene, interesting shops, a fabulous beach and that slightly old-fashioned, lived-in feel.
Stepping away from the coast, Dorset is full of history. Castles, hill forts and ancient monuments are scattered across the countryside, with Corfe Castle being one of the standouts. Fossil hunting is also a big part of Dorset life. You’ll often see people quietly searching along the shore, especially around Lyme Regis.
