Welcome!

To Meadow to the Sea

discovering the best of england’s beautiful south west

Here you’ll find a collection of ideas and inspiration for exploring the West Country region of Somerset, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, based on a lifetime of living here. It’s for trips planned around good food, interesting places to stay and a bit of fresh air, rather than packed schedules and long lists of things to tick off.

If you’re drawn to open space, dramatic coastlines and the charming villages the region is known for, I hope you’ll feel inspired.

Behind the blog

Where it all began

Hi, I’m Leah – I was born in the West Country and have lived in Somerset for most of my life. For a long time, I somehow missed just how lucky that made me. I spent ten years working in the travel industry, collaborating with journalists and tourist boards to create itineraries across Europe, especially around the Mediterranean, and further afield. Sun-drenched coastlines, long lunches, beautiful hotels…

But somewhere between airport lounges and press trips, I realised that not every escape needs a passport, and not everyone is chasing wall-to-wall sunshine. Don’t get me wrong, I still love travelling abroad, but over time I’ve found myself paying more attention to what’s closer to home, and appreciating just how much beauty is right under my nose.

So now I’m discovering the South West in a new way, finding new corners to explore, or revisiting familiar places with fresh eyes. I love a cosy cottage escape (extra points if it overlooks the sea), a good pub lunch, and trips that don’t need too much planning to feel special. I’m also on a mission to find the best cream tea in the region. Jam first. Always.
